Commercial building constructed in the 1930's, was a former grocery store (until around the 1960's), China Mart gift shop (c. 1970's-1980's), a flea market (c. 1990's-early 2000's), The Car Audio and Rim Depot window tinting, car alarm/stereo installation, and computer repair service center (c. mid 2000's-early 2010's), and a short lived Needful Things thrift store (June 2013-May 2014). The current space is now a furniture store, opened on Black Friday, November 28, 2014 by hobbyist/owner Ginny Pope. Her business started as a hobby in her garage in Sylvan Park in early 2013 and expanding into the flea market booth in March 2014. As her business flourished, she bought this property around Summer 2014 and began renovating the building in order to open her furniture store.

OAK stands for "One of a Kind," which reflects the store's mission: to curate and create one of a kind pieces for your home. Other than furniture, Oak Nashville also sells home goods such as candles, food products, decorative items, books, soaps, paint, and lamps. Over 90% of the products carried are hand-made, and the furniture is either custom-made or refurbished and refinished by Ginny Pope and other local artisans she's partnered with.

The furniture store includes a 1,000 sq. ft. showroom, a gallery space to display local art and photography, and a 1,000 sq. ft. workshop where Ginny Pope hosts classes on furniture making and refinishing.
