Notes: Peter M. Van Winkle, an American-born entrepreneur of Dutch ancestry, operated a series of grist and sawmills on this site between about 1850 and 1890. Dispersed throughout the site are the foundation remnants of the Van Winkle's home, the mills, a blacksmith's shop, and worker/slave quarters. Although no structures remain standing, there are walking trails and informational signs throughout the site, which is open to the public.
