Former building for historic Johnson's Meat Market (c. 1953-1990's) and a short lived Cottage Gate cafe and bakery (c. 2006-mid 2007) is now a French cuisine restaurant, opened on September 9, 2008 at night by chefs/owners Jimmy and Seema Prasad-Phillips. The word 'miel' is French for honey.

Restaurateur Seema Prasad was originally from Seattle, Washington but relocated to Nashville in 2001 where she met her husband Jimmy Phillips. She also owns two restaurants in her native Seattle. In 2007, the Phillips recruited architects Matt and Cheryl Nitch to renovate the squat, non-descript 1950's building into chic dining boites. Cozy too, with just 62 seats set at gleaming dark wood tables lined along banquettes fashioned from the wooden benches salvaged by friend and colleague Sylvia Harrelson Ganier from the Franklin County Courthouse. They also hired an artist and Rymer Gallery curator Herb Williams, enlivened the creamy ivory-painted cinder block walls with warm-toned textural work from the gallery. The sign that hangs over the entrance was crafted by metal fabricator Woody Woodall from scrap metal. This restaurant is environmental friendly.

In February 2010, Seema Prasad filed for divorce from chef Jimmy C. Phillips Jr. due to erratic behavior, heavy drinking, and drug use at Miel's kitchen and dining room. As a result, she has filed a restraining order banning her chef husband from coming within a mile of this restaurant.
