Estate home designed c. 1919 by Aymar Embury, II for executive and inventor Louis Geissler, General Manager and Director of The Victor Talking Machine Company. Geissler patented types of Victrola cabinets and was a pioneer in early records, and the recording industry. The long winding drive originally came off Makamah Road, and the estate included much of the Makamah Beach area. Geissler's Beach Park is now at the end of the road at the Sound.

The Baker's then owned the 7 bdrm, 8.5bath estate, and it was purchased from them by attorney Edward F. Hayes in 1969. The Hayes family subdivided the estate and Hayes Hill Drive was so named. The family lived in the main residence thru the 1990's. The large carriage house to the east of the mansion was part of the subdivision and remains intact as a private home.

  • Who are the Bakers? Louis F. Geissler, grandson of Louis Geissler, sold the home in 1969.
  • Hello William. The only Bakers I knew that ever lived there was my family. My father was the caretaker of the estate. He was originally hired by Louis Geissler Sr's wife in the early 1950's. She later passed away and my father stayed on until 1968 when it was sold. He worked for Louis and Caroline for that time. The Bakers never owned it. It was the best place to grow up!! The Geisslers were very good to us!
