La Loma is located on the southwest area of Quezon City. It is composed of five barangays along the vicinity of its main streets, N.S. Amoranto Avenue (Retiro) and A. Bonifacio Avenue. La loma is derived from the word hill in the Spanish language. This hilly area is located on the border of the pueblo of Tondo and Kalookan. Bandits are also more frequent in the area where they always prey on travelers and residents of the nearby area.

Later, in search of burial grounds, the colonial government decided to build a Cementerio General in the area, which we now know as La Loma Cemetery. The district is famed as the birthplace of many popular Filipino culinary figures and establishments, especially devoted to the lechon. Historically part of Caloocan. In the 1930's, western part of La Loma was taken to create Grace Park, when Quezon City was created in 1939, 1,500 hectares of land from Caloocan including La Loma (western part of Barrio San Jose and la Loma Cemetery remained in Caloocan).
