The gravesite of country/western singer Jim Reeves is located here, about three miles east of Carthage on U.S. Highway 79 on the grounds of the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. The native of Panola County was a top recording artist of the 1950s and 60s until his tragic death in a 1964 airplane crash near Nashville, Tennessee. His funeral service in Carthage's Central Baptist Church was the largest ever seen in the area.
