A significant portion of Ashton Heights is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) for its significance as an important early to mid 20th century suburb of Washington D.C. Named for Ashton Jones, a speculative real estate developer originally from southern Virginia, the historic elements of the neighborhood were built out by a total of 18 developers. The homes here were originally popular with government workers.
