“EDSA BEGAN WITH NINOY”
Benigno “Ninoy” S. Aquino, Jr.’s martyrdom sparked the Filipino nation’s awakening out of the quagmire of political apathy, which led to the birth of People-Power laboring passionately for the cause of Freedom and Democracy which culminated at EDSA in 1986.
(Commissioned by the Ninoy Aquino Movement led by Heherson Alvarez; Sculptured by Tomas Concepcion on September 1983; Unveiled and Blessed by Rev. Fr. Joseph O’Hare, S.J., President, Fordham University at the U.N. Plaza, New York City, U.S.A.; Brought to Manila, accompanied by Dr. Alejandro Roces on August 1984; Installed at the Mondragon Building, Makati City, October 1984; Later donated by Mr. Jose Antonio Gonzales to the City of Manila, August 1995; Mayor Lito Atienza subsequently donated to the Spirit of EDSA Foundation, Inc. through Founding Chairman, Christopher L. Carrion on February 2004; Installed at the Historic site of the People Power Monument and unveiled by Her Excellency PRESIDENT GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, former presidents President Corazon C. Aquino and Fidel V. Ramos, and other special guests on February 25, 2005, the 19th EDSA Anniversaey.)
