The Mittelplate offshore field, Germany's largest oil deposit, is located off the German North Sea coast at the southern end of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park: the offshore field Mittelplate has around 43% of national oil reserves. Together, RWE Dea (operator) and Wintershall – each with a 50% share – have produced some 30 million tons of oil to date. Another 20 million tons of oil are regarded as technically and economically recoverable. In 2010, the production license was extended to 2041.
