London Charing Cross station (London)

United Kingdom / England / London / The Strand, 1
 train station, metro station

London Charing Cross is the terminus of the Southeastern Main Line to Kent, as well as some local services to Dartford and Croydon. It is the closest railway station to central London, being right by the Charing Cross and Trafalgar Square. It is operated by Southeastern and Southern trains. The station was built by the SER (South Eastern Railway) when they extended their line into central London. Originally the platforms were covered by a glass roof, although it was replaced in the 1990s (now in a bit of a state) with a comercial development called Embankment Place, although this does not cover the concourse.

The Underground station is served by the Northern and Bakerloo Lines, and was made by combining two seperate stations (Trafalgar Square and Strand). On the platforms, murals depict the funeral journey of Eleanor and the building of the Charing Cross. Another tube station called Embankment is located on the same lines as well as the District and Circle Lines and is located within walking distance and this was originally called 'Charing Cross'
