A mountainous area with a lot of the same character and charm of neighborhoods like Echo Park, Chavez Ravine, Mount Washington, Hollywood Hills, etc. This historic area, along with neighboring areas like Lincoln Heights and Highland Park, were some of the earliest suburbs of Los Angeles, before being absorbed into the City of LA not long after the turn of the 1900's. These hilly neighborhoods still contain a lot of homes from that time period. This area, like much of Northeast LA, has seen heavy presence of gangs in the last several decades, but some gentrification has been underway in the last few years, due to new generations of people discovering the charm and character of the hillside neighborhoods and historic homes, and wanting to improve and renovate such properties, therefore raising the value of the neighborhoods.
