Lighthouse once located on the peninsula that extends southward from Mathews County, VA, but is now located on a riprap island built to protect the historic light. Built in 1805, the lighthouse has a rich history, having stood guard over the shallows near Mobjack Bay and Yorktown, VA through several wars and the modernization of navigation aids.
