Darland's Lake, which is now a nature reserve, was originally an ornamental feature created by damming Folly Brook. The water quality is good, and Darland's Lake has extensive reed beds. On its margin there is a boggy wood of willows and alder, a scarce habitat in London. The site has a number of tree species typical of ancient woodland, and a diverse bird and invertebrate population, while eighteen species of mammal have been recorded.
