Historic plantation and plantation house listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as a historic district. The original acreage included in the nomination was just 9 acres, located at the extreme eastern end of the current boundary. This represented the main plantation house and the land immediately surrounding it. The boundaries were expanded twice in 1984, with the current total standing at 1,468 acres. The expansions were made in order to include the larger agricultural area surrounding the original Westwood listing. Most of the expanded area is open fields, but multiple other structures, agricultural and residential, fall in the expanded area. The district as a whole represents, according to the NRHP listing nomination, opportunities to research social, agricultural, and archaeological aspects of the plantation system as it existed in the 19th century Black Belt region of Alabama.
