Built in 1942 as part of a transportation plan to move military troops from Fort Benjamin Harrison to U.S. 31, the bridge is a combination of pony truss and Parker through-truss spans. It remains Marion County’s sole surviving example of a Parker truss, in which diagonal supports slope toward the center of the bridge’s bottom chord, while the upper chord is divided into polygonal sections creating an arched shape. The bridge was listed in the National Register in September 2006 and underwent a 2008 restoration.
