Comet serves up home-cooking with table service, just like mom used to do. With offerings like meat-loaf (available vegan), mac and cheese, turkey dinner (smooshed into a ball, no less), and pot pie, you'll feel warm and fuzzy just reading the menu. The most popular sandwiches from Comet's coffee shop days remain, like the Cheesy Roast Beef, the Buttafuoco, and the Artichoke Melt, and Comet now offers breakfast daily until 3:00 p.m., plus Sunday brunch. The folks at Comet have taken a slow food aproach, by which they mean the ingredients are seasonal and local whenever possible.

I've found, though, that the food is, quite literally, slow. Plan on a little extra time here - it's worth it. There's something for everyone - from your meat-and-potatoes pop to your vegan sister (most of the menu can be made vegan or vegetarian) - and the atmosphere is unique and fun.

The diner side, where the old coffee shop was, is now non-smoking - a welcome change for many in the neighborhood - and filled with comfy booths, as well as a lunch counter. Smokers are welcome in the bar, just around the corner.

Try to save room for dessert. Homemade cakes and other treats are offered daily and are truly stellar.
