Hesaraghatta is a village on the outskirts of Bangalore city. The village belongs to the Bangalore Rural district.

The village came into prominence after the establishment of the CPDO(Central Poultry Development Organization) near Hesarghatta, in collaboration with the Danish and Irish governments. CPDO specializes in breeding and raising the ultimate varieties of cattle and poultry animals.

The large Hesarghatta lake near the village is a source of water to the village and surrounding villages of the district. It is also famous among peddlers and bird watchers.

The village came into national and international prominence after the noted danseuse established the dance-village, Nrithyagram, close to the village.

  • This was the site of a Danish effort in 1966 to introduce quality dairy cows into India. It was staffed by the Danish equivalent of the U.S. Peace Corps and had a similar site in Thailand. The Danish volunteers were very friendly with some nearby U.S. Peace Corps volunteers in 1966 and 67. One of the Danes was a man named Bo and the other was Henning Pedersen as I recall. I, Steve, and two other Americans, Diana and Peter were stationed in the town of Shivalli. I'd love to hear from either Bo or Henning again.
