place with historical importance, historical layer / disappeared object
This is the approximate site of "Dudley Place", built @1750 for Lord Charles Dudley, the Royal Customs Collector, by architect Peter Harrison. It was subsequently owned by the Bull family, who had it remodeled by McKim, Mead and White. In 1927, it was sold to W.K. Vanderbilt II, for his daughter Muriel Fair Vanderbilt and new husband Frederic Church, Jr. Later abandoned, it was sold for demolition in 1953. Now subdivided, the stable complex remains.
