Mukacheve airfieldSome 6 km (3.7 mi) southwest of the town, this airfield was home for the 92-й ИАП (Russian: 92-й истребительный авиационный полк, Ukrainian: 92-й винищувальний авіаційний полк — 92th Interceptor Aviation Regiment), part of the 8-й Войска ПВО (Russian: 8-й войска противовоздушная оборона, Ukrainian: 8-а війська протиповітряна оборона — Soviet 8th Air Defence Corps), equipped with MiG 29-9-13s. Part of these interceptors have been moved from the “Mukacheve AB” (Ukrainian: Авіабаза Мукачеве, Russian: Авиабаза Мукачёво) to Stryj December 1992, after Ukraine's independance, and the Ukrainian government then gradually closed Soviet and Russian installations and equipment.
The Transcarpathian Province (Ukrainian: Закарпатська область) authorities and the Ukrainian government try to set up a conversion project for a few years, to attract investors to this strong-built airfield, suitable for cargo flights, after a conversion of the existing military facilities together with construction of a new air cargo terminal, and are making efforts to promote these facilities as closed to Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Romania.
