This small group of houses built on the edge of the coral no longer exists - the wind and waves destroyed them, and the government will not allow them to be rebuilt here. The adjacent Coral Head Beach had changed dramatically - before the typhoon, it was easy to walk on - relatively flat, small pockmarks full of miniscule life. Now the surface is rough, almost craggy in a small way, difficult to walk on - the relentless pounding of the sea during the storm scoured the surface. The Hermit Crab population seems to have exploded - I have never seen such a variety in one place before, and I have walked many beaches...
