This point was originally named Turkey Buzzard Point in 1673 (often shortened to Buzzard Point). In the 1790s it became known as Young's Point because Notley Young owned the land. Soon after that, it became known as Greenleaf's Point or Greenleaf Point. It was named "Arsenal Point" for the Washington Arsenal in the 19th century. Now part of Fort McNair, the US Geological Survey's topographic map identifies it as "Greenleaf Point".
