The 1.1 million sq. ft. plant closed in 2002 with the loss of 1,500 jobs, when Philips transferred the manufacture of televisions to Mexico. It was originally owned by Sylvania Electric Products which constructed a 583,000 sq. ft. factory in 1947. Philips bought the then GTE Sylvania plant in 1981.
