"Shorecliff House" (Plandome, New York)

Built c.1858 for H.T. Willets with later additions, this Plandome white clapboard Colonial set on over 4.5 acres remains one of the larger waterfront plots in the Manhasset area, with 178' of Manhasset Bay frontage. The 5000+sqft mansion with a rich history was, in the early 1900's, the home of attorney and politician James R. Ely.

He sold the estate in 1914 to the famous dance duo of Vernon and Irene Castle. They kept kennels for their 24 dogs and stables for their 5 horses on the property. It currently features a 2700+sqft guest house, separate caretaker's apartment, heated In-ground pool, deep-water dock, and a par-3 golf hole.

The property was sold by the Thompson family in 2016 with plans for subdivision. It was demolished in 2017.
