Manubada (Motu for "Big Bird", also commonly called Local Island) is an island offshore from the Port Moresby coast. It is a popular location for lunch on the beach (on the upper west side) as it's nicely sheltered, and has a nice view back towards the city.

  • I attended the yacht club christmas dinner here in '84. A couple of the Aussies got really drunk and pissed off a couple of local kids who where there in there tin canoes. 15 minutes later about a dozen local men came from around the other side of the island waving machettes. Everyone fled as fast as they could. Those who were drunk and on the beach were cut badly, I think a few ended in hospital.
