This specially earthquake proofed building was built in 1974 as a precautionary measure. This precaution proved wise as an ailing Mao Zedong was moved here during the Great Tangshan Earthquake of July 28, 1976. Mao lived the last months of his life in this building, passing away on September 9, 1976.
