The monastery is located in the south-east of the town of Mombaroccio (PU).
The convent was founded by the Franciscans in 1223, when he was still their father Francis of Assisi was alive. The convent building was enlarged during the fourteenth century; In 1351 the church was consecrated by the Bishop of Fano and Pesaro to dedicating it to St. Mary of Scotaneto.
In 1368 he took the Franciscan habit here of Friars Minor, John Sante Brancorsini, with the simple attribute conversely. Friar Sante, so he was called, lived in the monastery until his death in 1394 and was immediately revered by the local population. Only in 1423, the convent changed his name with that of the beloved monk and thanks to Pope Clement XIV in 1770, the cult gained validation.
The entire north wing of the convent, the lower court and the wings are the result of fitting of later expansions.
