Sir Hans Sloane, (16 April 1660 – 11 January 1753) was a British physician and collector of Irish birth, notable for bequeathing his collection to the nation, thus providing the foundation of the British Museum. He was buried on 18 January 1753 at Chelsea Old Church. This memorial was erected by his two daughters, Eliza Cadogan and Sarah Stanley.
