The Port of Qingdao's Qiangang Company is a branch of the Qingdao Port corporation. Primarily dedicate to handling coal and iron ore, the Qiangang Company is the Port of Qingdao's biggest ore transshipment service and one of five main bases for the export of coal.

Located on the western shores of Jiaozhou Bay, the Qiangang Company borders Qingdao Old City. Jiaozhou Bay is the anchorage ground for this Port of Qingdao company. The Qiangang Company is blessed with a natural deep-water harbor that is protected from heavy wind and waves, from silting, and from freezing, making it an excellent shipping point.

To the west, the Port of Qingdao's Qiangang Company facilities are connected with the Port of Qingdao Free Trade Zone. It is served by the Jiao-Huang and Jiao-Ji railways, and Qiangang Company has easy access to local highways and the national road system.

The Port of Qingdao's Qiangang Company manages three wharves and seven deep-water berths. With capacity for handling 48.2 million tons per year, the Qiangang Company's area of the Port of Qingdao is 593 acres (2.4 square kilometers). Its storage yard is about 272 acres (1.1 million square meters) and has capacity for 10 million tons of cargo per year. The Port of Qingdao's Qiangang Company is capable of unloading 6.1 thousand tons of ore per hour per ship.

The Port of Qingdao's coal-handling system contains one 560-meter (over 1.8 thousand foot) wharf and two berths with annual throughput of 15 million tons of coal. These Port of Qingdao berths can accommodate one hundred thousand ton cargo freighters. Seven concrete-surfaced storage yards have total capacity for 660 thousand tons. These Port of Qingdao coal-handling facilities include two dumpers, two reclaimers, two stackers, two ship-loaders, one stack-reclaimer, and a control center.

The Qiangang Company's ore-handling system in the Port of Qingdao has five berths. Four of the berths can accommodate vessels from ten to fifty thousand tons, and one berth can accommodate vessels of 20 thousand tons.

The four ten thousand ton ore berths can handle 10.2 million tons, and they are equipped with 11 cranes, two car-loaders, three stacker-reclaimers, and 15 strap machines. Annual throughput capacity of this Port of Qingdao ore-handling system is 33.2 million tons, and stacking and storing capacity is more than 9.7 million tons.

The Port of Qingdao's iron ore wharf managed by the Qiangang Company can accommodate 300 thousand ton cargo freighters, making it one of the world's few ports capable of berthing bulk cargo vessels of this size. The iron ore wharf has annual throughput capacity of 23 million tons.
