island, place with historical importance
Hansando, or Hansan Island. Admiral Yi Sun-sin soundly defeated the primary Japanese war fleet in the area around Hansando in the Battle of Hansando during the Imjin War. After the victory, Admiral Yi relocated his main naval base from Yeosu to Hansando because it was tactically valuable for conducting surveillance and reconnaissance of the nearby Gyeonnaeryang Strait, an inland route leading directly to the main Japanese base located at Busan.
