The Railway is the only traditional drinking hole to be situated in the heart of West Didsbury. It sits directly opposite its humongous contemporary The Metropolitan, and is surrounded by a scatter of several smaller bars, some of which share their names with local municipal area codes. As dominating as The Metropolitan may appear it actually offers no threat to the Railway due to the nature of the majority of its clientele.
The Railway probably accommodates about 80 guests in all, although Friday and Saturday evenings can see that number rise to as much as 19000 with revellers entering the establishment through a special person-compressing device called 'The Entrance' - a sight to behold.
In addition the pub has an excellent spectrum of beverages including a range of locally brewed ales, some of which are available on tap at a suitably generous price.
A great place to go - if you're in the area call in, but watch out for the mean landlord.
