A stone wall which once was a part of a lock on the Erie Canal. The site was the beginnings of the populated city going West. The widewater for turnarounds was across the present highway in what is now the ball fields and Lake Riley.
In the early part of the 20th century the old canal bed was used as the subway path. The subway went out of business when buses and automobiles became popular.
