Daggett and Ramsdell Building (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / New York City, New York / West 14th Street, 314
 office building, historical building

6-story office building completed in 1907. Designed by Arno Kolbe & Gregory B. Webb as a store-and-loft building for druggists Daggett and Ramsdell, it is one of the few remaining single-bay loft buildings on 14th Street. The three-story loft building is one of the few remaining single-bay loft buildings constructed on a twenty five-foot-wide lot on 14th Street. The narrow width of these structures allowed a completely uninterrupted floor plan since the floor joists could span the entire distance without the need for additional support columns. This also meant that the front of the building could be opened almost entirely to windows, providing much-needed light and ventilation.

Above a limestone ground floor, the single bay of cast-iron framed windows is flanked by tan brick piers up to the 5th floor, where the windows culminate in a segmental arch. The top floor has five separately-framed windows below a simple brick parapet. The building has remained occupied by medical-related companies and physicians continually since its construction.
