The main library at the University of Chicago, designed in the Brutalist style by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. This was the site of the original Stagg Field, home to the University of Chicago football team when it was a part of the Big 10. On December 2, 1942 Enrico Fermi and his team set off the first nuclear chain reaction at Chicago Pile-1 in a racquets court under the west stands of the abandoned stadium.
