  • Manimangalam is a tiny village in the district of Kancheepuram which is called “The Temple City of Tamil Nadu”. Long ago this village was also called CHATURVEDA MANGALAM. In Kancheepuram alone we can see many SHIVA and VISHNU temples built during various periods of our great sages and Kings who ruled the erstwhile area. One such temple is KAILAYANATHAR TEMPLE built in AD 950 by the then King VIJAYA BALAYA CHOLAN. This temple was worshipped and then renovated by the then kings viz., RAJA RAJA CHOZHAN during AD 985; RAJENDRA CHOZHAN during AD 1014 and MUTHALAM KULOTHUNGAN in AD 1070. This temple has the distinction of hosting one of the Nayanmars of saivite cult namely SIRU THONDA NAYANAR. He was none other than the Army General of the King of Pallava by name Paranjothi who was engaged in the war between the King IRANDAM PULIKESI of West Challukyas and Pallavas. There is another importance attached with this SIRU THONDA NAYANAR. ANNADHANAM is supposed to be the best DHANAM amongst all dhanams and more than any one Maharathi Karna is said to have not performed ANNADHANAM during his days and took a rebirth as SIRU THONDA NAYANAR and done a lot of ANNADHANAM in this sacred village. Yes, a truly sacred village, MANIMANGALAM was once upon a time called “CHATURVEDA MANGALAM, where pundits and experts of all the four VEDAS have lived and enjoyed the bountiful blessings of Lord Kailayanathar. This temple has seen the best of time of the History of our ancient Tamil culture and courage and a sea of humanity has benefited by the grace of Lord Kailayanathar. Now, the entire temple is in ruins and only the Kailayanathar sannidhi, in a very dilapidated condition is standing a silent witness. This has been aptly scripted in the English daily “The Hindu” in its columns on 2nd September 2006 along with a photo of the present condition of the temple. The temple has been with HR&CE department of The Government of Tamil Nadu and a trust by the name ARULMIGU THIRUKAILAYANATHAR GNANAMBIGAI EDUCATIONAL & CHARITABLE TRUST has taken up the massive task of renovating the temple and bring it back to its past glory. It is also proposed to construct the Lord Kailayanathar sannadhi as in the past with stones only. Accordingly BALALAYAM was constructed and consecrated on 20th January 2008. A separate sannidhi for Godess GNANAMBIGAI; Lord MURUGA, Lord ANJANEYA and NAVAGRAHAS is also planned along with the compound wall around the temple. This mammoth task of renovation and consequent Kumbhabhishekam is expected to cost around Rs.2 crores. We request all kind hearted philanthropist people to donate generously to accomplish the task and get the blessings of the Lord Kailayanathar & Godess Gnanambigai. Donations can be sent by cheques / drafts payable at Chennai in favour of ARULMIGU THIRUKAILAYANATHAR GNANAMBIGAI EDUCATIONAL & CHARITABLE TRUST to : NO.69, KAMARAJAR NEDUNCHALAI, NEW PERUNGALATHUR, CHENNAI 600 063, TAMIL NADU, INDIA. or C/O.S BALASUBRAMANIAN, FLAT NO.1, JAYAM APARTMENTS, 13 RAMESWARAM ROAD, T NAGAR, CHENNAI 600 017, TAMIL NADU, INDIA.
