In the 1980s, a housing estate was built on top of a (then unknown) illegal toxic waste dump, and many young children who lived there developed serious health problems. The entire area was condemned, and the houses abandoned immediately, where they were left to stand 'unoccupied' (bar the occassional squatter) for nearly a decade.
...and then they decided to rezone the area as habital again..
