  • Assimilation can effectively take place when the host opens its doors and policies to make other minority communities feel comfortable. Visible minorities will continue to flock together in ghettos and will shun any form of assimilation if they are made to feel unwelcomed by its host and subjected to verbal, educational, & political abuse. I have lived in Cal since birth until my 20s and remember vividly of incidents where I had been picked on by my peers and teachers in school and by local goons in the neighbourhood largely because I'm a Christian and visible minority.
  • Go and watch the movie 'Bow Barracks Forever'... 'nuff said.

  • We the people of Kolkata are grateful for the contribution the Anglo Indian community has made. The area of Bow bajar or Bowbazar is very old and has rice history. If you see the newpaper(The Stateman) of 15th August 1947 , you will find Prabartak Bank existed here . In fact very few banks used to operate those days.A bank operating from Bowbazar meant some thing big. The bread of jews community of Bowbazar, the chinese sauce from the chinese of Bowbazar , the cakes of bowbazar Anglo Indians , Firani of Bowbazar's Muslims and sweets of Bowbazar's Bengalis ....all were so great . People even today come here in morning and have chinese momo. I as an old man of Kolkata love you all friends. You all are our dearest friend. Please love them . They were born here , their parents were born here . They played here, did schooling here and they need our love. Regards and best wishes to you all. ....Kumar
  • Also to mention Bodhs of Bowbazar ,Jains ,Marwaris and Gujratis. All were in Bowbazar since atlest 150 years. Love you all... dear brothers and sisters . Kumar
  • After watching the movie: Bow Barracks Forever, it gave me a very disturbing impression of folks living here while I know the story in the movie is not true. Other than the urge by scrupulous agents who tried to throw this minority group of Anglo-Indians out from their dens, there was nothing good said about the occupants who were being portrayed as laid back, poor and had profound love for casual sex with neighbours and community friends, having no respect on marriage bonds and ex-marital affairs. It did not come as a surprise that the film was a big flop rated with only 2 stars.
  • Hi Is there any person from Bow Barrack?? please let me know. I need help
  • The Anglo Indian community was/is unique as a lot many were fantabulous Teachers.I agree things are not all that bright however every dark cloud has a silver lining!every community has their share of Gôod and Bad! Anjan Dutta is an expert figure on the Anglo Indian as the gentleman has lived his life amongst them and I firmly beleive he had no malicious intent while having this film in mind. Let's sum it up: They may be Drunkards But speak a sober mind; They may be debaucherers But do a kind deed pleasant in the eyes of GOD; They may be ignorant But know their manners; They may be cheap But know to love; They may be poor But have a magnanimous heart.
  • We lived in the 50s. There were Chinese there. Next to us were Hupak Chinese.
