  • Many years ago I had visited and climbed this hill. At the top of Savanadurga there is a nandi (bull) temple. The bull being holy and the vehicle of Lord Shiva is considered as sacrosant. Reference to Savanadurga (then called Magadi Hill)is made by Kenneth Anderson - please refer to Old Muthuswamy and the panther of Magadi in his book : The Black Panther of SivaniPalli and other stories which speaks of a man eating panther which lived at the base of Savanadurga. Ultimately, it was shot by Kenneth Anderson in a small valley between the 2 hillocks which make up Savanadurga. The ancient fort at the top of the hill was constructed by Tipoo Sultan.
  • In Savanadurga, There is one Dargah Shareff
  • I have frequently vistied Savandurga for trecking in last 15 years. There are 2 hills here 1) beelibetta(white hill) it can be climbed from the kempae gowda adventure park gate once you cross veerabadhareshwara temple on the road to foot of hill you find this park.. It is very good place to trek up, it as old root across fort walls. You find one Ganesha carved on stone up above. Next there is one shivalinga on one the hills beside.Beware you may loose way, if you are not carefull. 2) karibetta(black hill)- this at the foot of the hill near to the Narashima swamy temple. This the one commonly choosen by many people - you can climb it in diffrent routes based on the energy and courage you have for that day. The easiest is to reach the fort wall, a)low the electric pole wires you reach the top. b)Tughest to climb is the front face on northen side.. it is slippery and requires energy to sustain climb. Important is not get afraid of the height and reassure one self to keep on going to the top. There are times you feel you cannot either climb down nor go up. It is real test of adventure. Not to mention - the route is dangerous. Needs good amout of fiteness training to attempt this climb. c)Average route is to cross the first fortwall, and start climbing on the west side of the hill to reach a horse track route laid by bricks. Above we find old stone mantapas for people to rest, a pond near by then on way to Nandi we have a carving of god Hunuman toward right into forest. On way to Nandi you have a pleasant cool rocky caves though which we reach Nandi. This place is of Kempae gowda of Magdi/Bangalore and there are no traces of Tippu builing anything here.On and around hill there are lot many temples. -Mahesh Krishna
