The Cambridge Military Hospital opened in 1879. The name Cambridge came from His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge who was the Commander-in-Chief of the Army at that time.

The most striking feature of the building is its 840' (~260m) long corridor, with self contained wards and rooms branching off on either side to reduce cross infection. A second building, the Louise Margaret Hospital opened in 1898 in 1958 became the Louise Margaret Maternity Hospital. The hospital closed in 1996 due to changes in operational practices, costs of running and a the discovery of large quantities of asbestos in the buildings.
