railway, summit, mountain pass
High point (a pass) on the transportation corridor between Spanish Fork and Green River. Crossed by US Highway 6 and the Union Pacific Railroad. Elevation: 7440 feet (2268 meters).
In the Steam Era extra or helper engines were needed to drag larger trains up the steep grades, more on the East side. At this summit the extra engines would drop off, use the Y-turn track to turn around and go back to the town of Helper and wait for the next load.
