Historic D.C. fire department headquarters building. It was built in 1939 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was constructed with assistance from the Public Works Administration (PWA), a New Deal program that operated during the Great Depression between 1933 and 1944. The program provided funds to private contractors to build large-scale projects proposed by states as a means of economic stimulus.
