when Jagdish Surlaker taught at the school and resided the board, things were booming for this school but when he passed away, the strings were in the hands of his intelligent but feisty wife. She was a great disciplanarian but an awful administrator.

  • During my time this was the best school in Goa but to day it is one of the worst. The teachers are dump a lot on students to finesh their portion
  • oh pls, mrs surlakar was not a great disciplinarian. she was just a mentally disturbed woman who would take out her frustrations on students.
  • first this school was the best and now it is the worst
  • peoples higs school is the worst school in panaji there are no good teachers in this school they punish the good students and leave away the bad students.they do not encourage students.
  • i go in this school ..but i think the school is nice and most of the teachers are dump..they teach any nonsense
  • oh shut up u bunch of losers.. wot do u mean by school is good/bad?? a school is its teachers and their students.. earlier teaching was a passion, now it is a profession.. so there is no one to fill into good teachers' shoes.. the time spent in school is the best time in one's life.. but one doesn't realise it then.. i m sure most of the comments here r of present day students.. everyone who has had a happy childhood and have made most of the education they recieved, i m sure, will always be indebted to their school. so stop cribbing and stick to studying and bring back People's to its past glory by winning academic and extra-curricular laurels...keep a diamond in the darkest corner of the room, yet it will glow with the fainetst ray of light!!!
  • In fact, I feel what matters is not the INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION rather it is the PERSONAL EFFORTS of the students which counts for the upliftment of an institution. So please stop commenting on "school" or the "staff" and do your best to get meritorious results and upliftment of the Name and Fame of the Institution you are committed to.
  • Saw this page when casually surfing the net. I was the green house captain of the school , besides the best outgoing school student in 1983 when Dr JM Surlakar was our principal. It was definitely a great school then ... Dr Surlakar was a great teacher and I am sorry to learn that he is no more. I am now working as an orthopaedic surgeon at Bangalore. Many of my classmates have gone on to greater heights in personal life.. my classmate Jayant Vaidya is today a leading breast surgeon in the UK, my schoolmate Vishnu is a professor of Mathematics at Texas Univ , Houston , Ravish Mahajan ,another batchmate is a physician in US.There are a whole lot of ex Peoples High students out all over the world and I still feel proud of my school and the values it taught me. Personal efforts and a commitment to goals is important. Its up to you individual students to do well and lift up the image and name of this old institution... don`t blame the poor teachers. I`m sure they put in their best.Fully agree with the comment by blue house capt of batch of 99!

Our teachers were great.this is our SSc snap chat room and its on the verge of guiness record for maximum comments on one photo

  • I agree with Mr Dinesh K n capt of blue house....do not blame school or teachers...do what you need to do. I am also ex Peoples student n today being in the US i still remember every moment I spent in blue, yellow bldg...from peons to teachers to principal I am proud to be ex Peoples HS student. Years from now you will regret that you wrote against your school...
  • I was a student of Peoples' High school, 1971 SSC batch. At that time, Mr. Mangesh Surlakar, father of JM Surlakar was the principal. I remember him as a kind elderly person who advised students very well in dealing with many a life situations. Dr. JM Surlakar was then a geography teacher for our batch - great teacher but with bad temper and very emotional. I am really sad to hear of the passing away of Dr. J. M. Surlakar and the subsequent degradation in the quality of my school, which in those days was a standard bearer of sorts. I am looking to re-establish contacts with many of my classmates to hopefully have a small re-union in Goa at some point of time in future. I can be contacted via email at shashidhar56@yahoo.com.

  • Hi I was an ex student of the Peoples high school 1981 batch. Dinesh Kamath was my batchmate. The School was the best with the most passionate teachers I know. Yes the school did detiorate in the middle, but now its ex students and a new management are working hard to get back its lost glory. Especially Rahul Deshpande and his team. I remember Devanna and his "Khanaval"..SSC hall, yellow bulding, blue building, the annual cultural functions, debates competitions etc etc...What I am today is the blessings of our teachers... LOng live Peoples. We are now celebrating our Platinun jubilee this year

  • I am an ex student of People's High School. I studied there right from kindergarten (my K.G. classroom was at Gitanjali) to Xth standard, batch 2008-09. Although, I agree with the fact that the school is not at the heights of glory it once used to be, it is undeniable that it still has some of the best teachers one can ever have... Teacher Lucette Virgincar is the present headmistress. A wonderful person she is, I must say. Hoping that the school would do just fine in the future.

  • Hello Pallavi, You will likely not remember me (the tiniest kid in the whole grade) but you belonged to my 1973 batch. I have been under the radar for the last 42 years and like you, am trying to reconnect. Currently live in Toronto, Canada and plan to visit the school in Dec 2015. In case you have been successful in reaching out to any classmates you mentioned (BTW, Durga and Seema sat right behind Dhanajay and I in grade X and we gave Shrikant Naik (who taught us History/Hindi) a lot of trouble. My kids laugh every time i describe his unique similes while narrating battles, especially while moguls climbed Maratha forts - "they came down like pieces of ice" and 'they burnt like fishes" (note the plural of fish!). My email is dbhangui@gmail.com in case you would be interested in reconnecting. Kind regards, Devdatt
