USA / New York / Plandome Heights / Plandome, New York
residence, LIGC - Long Island Gold Coast, historical layer / disappeared object

The c.1920 stucco and stone Spanish Colonial mansion built for attorney Eugene A. Riotte, designed by Slee & Bryson with apparently elements by the New York Architectural Terra Cotta Co. Riotte went into business around 1893 with his brother Carl, a well known engineer and pioneer in the motor boat engine industry. In 1900, Eugene became president of their concern, The Standard Motor Construction Company, pioneering motorized watercraft. He died in 1929.

Later, manufacturer Joseph Gallagher purchased the estate and 7000sq.ft. 7 bedroom, 8 bath residence on 4.5acres, with pool and clay tennis court. He was part of the family who ran the Gallagher Sand Mining business, mining in Plandome Heights, the Port Washington sand pits, and many other locations for New York City construction.
