lake, reservoir, picnic area, tourist attraction

Mukutmanipur is famous as one of the best picnic spots in West Bengal.
There is a giant water reservoir name as Kangsabati Dam, situated about 08 kms. from Khatra town in the district of Bankura.
This is considered as the second largest earthen dam of India. The dam was planned in 1956 to provide major irrigation facilities to agricultural land, stretched across Bankura, Purulia, Paschim Medinipur and parts of upper Hooghly.
The dam was constructed by channelizing the flow of Kangshabati & Kumari rivers.
Every year in the month of December and January lots of tourists gather for picnic on the bank of the dam. Mukutmanipur is really a very beautiful site to enjoy the adventure of rivers, hills and jungles at the same time.
Have a look of the Dam in the pics attached herewith.

  • The purpose of the Mukutmonipur dam is very meaningful and the public of adjacent three districts are getting benefit in respect of irrigation. The view of Mukutmonipur is very fine as it shows water dam, hills and forest altogether. The lonely less at forest area, silence adorned with charping, soothing air, boating in the moonlight on the river dam, the local terracota articles etc can attract anybody. We, the Bengali, are proud of such tourist place and I think it is a place and all should visit at least for one day to feel the joy.
