Entrance Fee: RM10 (Adult)
Built in 1998, the white interiors of the four-story structure are silent, airy and saturated with natural light — perfect for contemplating the collection of Islamic decorative art. The architecture alone is reason enough to visit this turquoise-domed museum. It has over 7,000 displays of Islamic texts, artifacts, porcelain, and weaponry in local and visiting exhibits. There is also a fine Middle Eastern restaurant and an excellent book and souvenir shop.
Since Islam forbids the depiction of people in art, Islamic Art is highly geometric and pattern-based. Many mathematicians would really enjoy this museum. Many of the displays are hundreds of years old and display objects not seen anywhere else in the world. The history of how Islam spread into South-East Asia is also covered and there is a good display of weapons and artifacts with Islamic connections. However, if you are not so fascinated about Islamic Arts, don't like math and history, or you are in tight schedule, then you are not deserved to go to this museum. The permanent collection is not very extensive and can be seen in one hour.
