The Getty Villa is an educational center and museum dedicated to the study of the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. Like the Getty Center in Brentwood, the Getty Villa includes both public museum spaces as well as areas for researchers that are closed to the public. The Roman Villa and some building are public, while the original Getty Home is not open to the public.

Now re-opened after a remodel project which took several years to complete.
This site was owned by the late J. Paul Getty, at one time among the richest men in all the world. Although a mansion was built on the site (and later removed to make way for the "authentic" Roman villa), J. Paul Getty never lived at the estate.
