  • This is one of the very few old temples in the Dt.M Kuladeivam of Rasipuram Koottam of Gounders, Rasipuram Nadu of Kulalas and so many other communities. Athi, Athiappan. Athayee are the names given to the children born in the families. Autten(Dancer) Athi, the prince of Adhi Mandhi sung in the Sangam Literature, adapted as Tamil Film,Mannadhi Mannan, should have hailed from here. One point to note is that he didn't know swimming ans was washed away in the Cauvery floods. Due to water scarcity, most people in this area did not know swimming.
  • Rasipuram nadu is one among the seven divisions of Kongu Desam(Nadu/Kingdom). The rullers of each division are called Nattu Gounders. The Kuladeivam (The family God for Generations) of Rasipuram nattu Gounders and the peoples under the division is The Athanoor Amman (Sri Athayee). As per Ramayana, The Goddes and Her sister Azhiya Ilankai Amman (The undestroyable Lanka) were in Sri Lanka, came to this place on Sri Hanuman's request. That is why Sri Hanuman while moving the Sanjeeva giri(Herbal hill)stayed one moment near Sri Athanoor Amman Temple and worshiped the Goddes.Still the Sri Hanuman temple near Sri Athayee temple is called Sri Sanjeeva Rayeer Temple.
