Haskell Hall is a dorm at Tufts University. It is located downhill across from Tilton Hall. For the first time ever, Haskell was made into an all-freshmen dorm for the 2007-2008 school year. At maximum capacity, Haskell can house 150 students. Haskell offers suite living in single-sex suites of 10. The dorm is co-ed though. In each suite there are two singles, four doubles, a common room and a bathroom that has two showers, two sinks, and two toilettes. It bears mentioning that while students live in suites, the suites are not private. That is to say that anyone, including police or RA's, can enter the common room or bathroom at anytime, as they do not lock. The bedrooms, obviously, are lockable and private. Haskell is staffed by 4 RA's and 1 RD. The RA's live in random suites throughout the building.
Haskell Hall is one of the older dorms on campus. The doubles are approximately 12'X16' and singles are approximately 8'X10'. All rooms have brick walls and linoleum floors, along with built in wooden dressers and closets and a bureau. The common rooms have two or three couches and a table with stools. Haskell has a common room with a TV as well as a bike storage room. There is also one communal kitchen. Haskell was built to be riot proof, so there are no halls in the traditional sense. Suites are staggered between half flights of stairs. Haskell is known as one of the worst dorms as far as actual accommodations go.
Overall, students like the suite living that Haskell has to offer. The suites offer space to socialize that other dorms do not. Also, since there are relatively few RA's, Haskell is conducive to being a pretty social dorm. The suites often result in the creation of a very tight bond among suitemates, but there is less overall Haskell community. The good location of Haskell also makes it a good place to live.
