This octagonal 'Temple', now ruinous, stands on top of Kenmuir Hill. It was built in 1760 by William McDowall of Castle Sempill, said to be for a religious shrine. Later, is was used as a meeting place for the hunt, the deer path being close by.

  • It's not a "temple" and never has been. It's a folly that the MacDowell's built on the land. It may have been used as a refugee from bad weather during hunting over the Kenmuir and St. Bryde's areas, but the main purpose was purely decorative.
