Formerly Loring Air Force Base, the largest SAC base in the United States, Loring International Airport is now owned by the Loring Development Authority.

The airfield itself was the site of three festivals hosted by the rock band Phish in 1996, 97 & 98, each time drawing crowds in excess of 60,000 for the three-day events. The band returned in 2003 following a summer tour and again drew 60,000+ fans.
