Confluence of the Haw River (north) and Deep River (west) forming the Cape Fear River, flowing southeast from this point, through Fayetteville, North Carolina to the port city of Wilmington, North Carolina. Local legend says this is where the mermaids of the North Atlantic Ocean would come to lie on the banks to comb the salt (water) from their long hair.
